Recently, Suzhou City Garden and Green Management Bureau announced the third batch of “Suzhou Garden List.” 31 modern gardens distributed over Greater Suzhou are included in the directory. 5 Changshu parks, namely, Sand Get-together Garden, Reading Station，Water-waving Villa, Wengs’Family Garden, and Yiqing Park are on the list.

The 31 gardens listed were all renovated, reconstructed, or established by the state, enterprises, institutions, or with private money since the founding of the People's Republic of China, featuring both traditional style and modern touches. Common to theses gardens are the basic characteristics of Suzhou garden freehand landscape, garden construction concept, approach and classical Suzhou Private Garden Tradition. They all display an interwoven pattern of architecture, water & mountain landscape, flowers and other basic elements of garden composition. Maintained and developed within is the vitality of Suzhou cultural tradition, presenting a high historical, artistic, scientific, cultural and social values while meeting the needs of modern taste.

This third catalogue that lists 31 gardens is given the name of “Modern Suzhou Gardens.” Each area under Suzhou municipal governance has a share, with Changshu City contributing 5 gardens, Kunshan City 1, Zhangjiagang City 2, Wujiang District 4, Gusu District 8, Wuzhong District 10, and Xiangcheng District 1. Among the 31 gardens, 24 are open to public. The said 5 Changshu gardens are already visitor destinations.
